Stripii strips personally identifiable information out of a document before you paste it into an LLM. It makes no network calls, by design, which is why it has to be a desktop app rather than a website.
It came out of the healthcare work, where the problem is obvious and constant. Someone uploads a medical record or a bank statement to get help reading it, and hands over everything else in the document at the same time.
Two modes
OCR to markdown. The document is read, cleaned, and returned as text you can paste straight into a chat window.
Black masking, then flattening. The PII is masked, and then the readable page is flattened into a JPEG-backed PDF. The masked content cannot be selected, copied, or recovered from a text layer, because there is no text layer.
Why the second mode matters
Most redaction tools draw a black box over a PDF and leave the text underneath intact. That is how redaction failures make the news. Flattening to an image is the unglamorous correct answer. It costs you search inside the document, and that is the right trade when the document is a clinical record.
Where it is
The command-line tool works today. The Mac app is in progress. The desktop app will be paid; the CLI stays open. A launch date, a price and a URL follow when they exist, not before.
